Cookies this site sets

We use Google Analytics 4 to understand aggregate traffic — how many people visit, which pages they read, and which sources they arrive from. It sets two cookies in your browser:

_ga — tells one browser apart from another, so a returning visitor is not counted as a new one. Expires two years after your most recent visit.
_ga_DSYHTFN7JT — keeps track of a single visit, so one session is not counted as several. Expires two years after your most recent visit.

Neither cookie tells us who you are, and we do not try to connect them to a person. We use no advertising or retargeting pixels, no fingerprinting, and nothing that follows you to other websites.

Refusing it

Analytics is not needed to use this site, and nothing here breaks if you block it:

Google's Analytics opt-out add-on blocks it across every site you visit.
Your browser's settings can block or clear cookies for this domain on its own.
Most content blockers stop the analytics script from loading at all.

Third-party requests

This site loads its typefaces from Google Fonts, and its analytics script from googletagmanager.com. In both cases Google receives the request and, as part of it, your IP address and user agent. Google does not set cookies when serving font files. Everything else this site loads — stylesheets, images, and our own scripts — is served from our own domain.
